Visitor Industry Charity Walk

Each of Kyo-ya’s five Hawai‘i properties is a major supporter of the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association’s annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, a statewide event that attracts some 9,500 walkers each year to raise funds in support of local charities. Each year hundreds of Kyo-ya associates participate in the walk. Kyo-ya’s four Waikiki hotels also sponsor lunch for the thousands of walk participants with associates from property cooking and serving food.

In 2010, Kyo-ya participants in the walk raised some $84,000. In addition, the Kyo-ya end-of-walk lunch donation averages about $30,000 each year. In addition to the funds raised by participation in the Walk itself, the hotels and their associates hold bake sales, white elephant sales, bento sales, fried rice sales, silent auctions, a car wash, a swap meet and more. In 2010, they also partnered with Kaiser High School, whose students alone raised $1,055.
