Hotel Education Partnership Program

Kyo-ya is a very active member of the Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association and its Hotel Education Partnership Program (HEPP). Each year for a number of years now Kyo-ya’s five Hawaii hotels have sponsored HEPP’s scholarship program by contributing a $2,000 sponsorship per student from each of the hotels. Moreover, Kyo-ya helps mentor and train up-and-coming candidates in the program.

Each year on Groundhog Day, Kyo-ya welcomes students from Hawaii high schools into its hotels to get a glimpse behind the scenes and introduce potential future employees to the many careers the company offers. Students are paired with mentors in various departments, who they “shadow” to experience how the skills they learn in the classroom can be applied to the real world.

This year, 2012, Kyo-ya expects the largest group of student participants yet – 135 students from high schools across Oahu will be observing hospitality staff on the job at Kyo-ya’s resorts to learn more about the industry and experience the dynamic and fast paced jobs it creates.
