Malama Maunalua Bay

Royal Hawaiian Hotel General Manager Kelly Hoen and the Royal Hawaiian Ambassadors joined Support Services, Princess Kaiulani Associates and the non-profit organization Malama Maunalua on Saturday, August 4, to Malama, or “care for,” Maunalua Bay by removing invasive algae – by hand!

The invasive algae grow quickly and overwhelm native plant species. By removing the invasive algae, native sea grass and algae can be planted and allowed to thrive. In line with Kyo-ya’s emphasis on recycling, the invasive algae is composted and used by local farmers.
